Targeting the correct demographic is one of the most important aspects of successful digital marketing campaigns. It can be hard and frustrating, though. It's easy to get lost within all the different options you can choose from when setting up your ad sets. How far outside my city should I target? Should I target both male and females? What ages? What would people be interested in if they find my product appealing? Should I add interests if it makes my estimated reach go down? These are all questions I'm sure have gone through your head at some point when you're deciding who to target with your content.
If you feel completely lost while deciding who to target, I have two recommendations:
1. Hire a marketing agency
2. Use custom audiences
Custom audiences are easy to set up. They use data provided by Facebook and your records to create audiences of people who are either already interested in your business or similar to people who are interested in your business.
